Board of Directors

There are currently eleven active members of the Board of Directors serving without compensation or conflict of interest. 

Brenda Morales, President

Brenda Morales, President

Board Member since 2019

Born and raised in Bisbee, Brenda is proud to call this community home with her husband Ramon. She is the proud mother of two daughters, Lilian and Yasmin, now educated young women — Lilian, a graduate of Northern Arizona University with a master’s degree from the University of Arizona, and Yasmin, a recent University of Arizona graduate continuing to pursue her professional path. Brenda currently serves as Associate Director of Operations at the Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum.

Over the years, she has volunteered with the Bisbee Coalition for the Homeless and served as secretary for the Boys and Girls Club. Today, she is honored to serve as President of the Bisbee Foundation, working alongside a dedicated board to expand the Foundation’s impact through grants and scholarships. She is passionate about preserving Bisbee’s history, supporting local students, and helping ensure a thriving future for her hometown.

An active member of St. Patrick’s Church and its women’s club, Brenda also enjoys gardening, baking, and spending time with her family.

Sylvia Anable, Secretary

Board Member since 2000

Sylvia Anable's career in education spans almost 50 years. She has taught students from kindergarten through high school, specializing in early childhood education and education of the gifted where she coached high school students in the Academic Decathlon. Her team earned both team trophies and individual medals in this rigorous state competition. In 1989, she came to Bisbee to serve as principal of Greenway School and then went on to the University of Arizona in Sierra Vista as an adjunct instructor to mentor students as they completed their degree in education. In 2007, she became a full-time volunteer. She is active in the Bisbee Foundation, the Bisbee Woman's Club, the Kiwanis Club and the Woman's Group, P.E.O. Her main focus in retirement is promoting education and fundraising for scholarships. She is an avid reader, ardent traveler, lover of classical music and life-long learner.

Charles Bethea

Charles Bethea

Board Member since 2014

Charles Henry Bethea was raised in Bisbee. He received a Bachelor’s in Music Education and Master’s in Choral Music from Arizona State University. He taught music and theatre in public school and was an administrator in the ASU School of Music. He retired from a career in arts presenting and management at Arizona State University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Temple University. Currently residing in Old Bisbee, he serves on several other boards.

Fred Miller

Fred Miller

Board Member since 2011

Since moving to Bisbee in 1993, Fred Miller has been active in community life. He was on the board of the Bisbee 1000 Stair Climb for four years, President for one, a co-founder of the Bisbee Bloomers-director for six years, executive director of the Bisbee Chamber of Commerce, and was active in Bisbee economic development. With his wife Anita Fox, he formerly owned Copper City Inn. He retired from Café Roka after 28 years and currently, Fred writes an economic e-newsletter, the Bisbee Wire, as well tending to their garden.

Douglas Dunn

Douglas Dunn, former President of the Bisbee Foundation, is a 40 year resident of Cochise County. He served 30 years as Extension Agent and County Director of the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension. He has been an antique dealer on Main Street in Bisbee for 20 years. He volunteers with the city's Planning and Zoning Commission, St. John's Episcopal Church and other community groups and served on the City Council for several years.

Yvonne Torres

Yvonne Torres

Board Member since 2019

Yvonne Torres was raised in Bisbee. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Early Childhood Education and taught in both the Bisbee and Naco school districts for 36 years. She was a member of the rock and roll band RockUs for 15 years, while simultaneously cantoring at St. Patrick Parish. She is the proud mother of three grown children; Epifania, Josef and Emilio and now her brand new joy is her grandson, Alessio, who is just the best thing ever!

Britt Hanson

Britt Hanson

Britt was born and raised in a small farm town in northern Illinois, eventually heading to Champaign-Urbana where he earned a degree in economics from the University of Illinois, and went to work for IBM. He later received a law degree from DePaul University in Chicago. After one too many winters in Chicago, Britt moved to Arizona in 1989 and to Bisbee in 2003, where became the Chief Civil Deputy in the County Attorney’s Office, retiring in 2021. In Bisbee he’s been active in community theater, and now serves as President of the Board of Chiricahua Community Health Centers, Treasurer of the Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum Board, and Treasurer of the Bisbee Foundation Board. Britt also wrote and performed a song in Bisbee ’17. He has one son who, after graduating from the University of Chicago and learning just how dark and cold Chicago is in winter, now lives in Tucson.

Kevin McBeth

Kevin McBeth

Originally from West Michigan, Kevin has lived in Bisbee since 1998. He is married to his wonderful wife, Jen, and has three amazing kids, Connor (15), Oliver (13), and Logan (11). Kevin has been a teacher in the Palominas, Naco, and Bisbee schools, as well as for the University of Arizona. He is currently teaching 3rd grade at Greenway Elementary. In 2013, Kevin was selected as the Arizona Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. He recently completed a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Arizona. Kevin enjoys traveling, camping, sports, music, writing, and spending time with family. He is incredibly proud to be supporting positive things happening in Bisbee.

Margot Walker

Margot Walker

Board Member since 2024

After living in the Great Lake states of Michigan, Illinois, and New York all her life, upon retirement Margot and her husband Ted moved to Bisbee in September of 2018. Margot has her undergraduate degree in Secondary Education and a Masters in Guidance and Counseling, however spent most of her career in business in customer service, sales, purchasing, and National Sales Manager. While living in western New York she enjoyed gardening, playing softball, rollerblading, and sailing on the Lower Niagara River and Lake Ontario. Since moving to Bisbee, she joined The Bisbee Woman’s Club and is currently serving as Secretary, serves as a board member of Naco Wellness Initiative, joined Covenant Presbyterian Church where she is an Elder and Treasurer, and has also enjoyed volunteering with asylum seekers in Douglas. Margot feels blessed to be part of the wonderful Bisbee community.

Marilyn Mueller

Marilyn Mueller

Board Member since 2024

Marilyn was born in Tucson and moved to Bisbee in 1954 with her parents, William Jenney, owner of Jenney Freight Line and Beverly Harris Jenney, later Cochise County Attorney. She attended Bisbee Public Schools with her brothers, Bill, Bob and Rex, and graduated from the University of Arizona.
She owned several businesses, both hairstyling and exercise. After 43 years of hairstyling, she retired in 2021.
She and her husband Paul are the parents of married daughters Wendy and Lesley. Both attended Bisbee schools.
Marilyn enjoys volunteering for local nonprofits, outdoor activities and reading.

Helen Lyons

Helen is new to Bisbee, moving here in 2024. She spent a year and a half in Sierra Vista before deciding Bisbee was the place to be. She’s been involved with Bisbee’s radio station, KBRP, as a board member since 2023 and is now a programmer there as well. Helen’s background includes visual arts, public radio and a degree in Music History Theory and Cultural Anthropology with graduate studies in Ethnomusicology from UC Santa Barbara. In 1976, Helen was involved in opening a computer retail store in Santa Barbara. After moving to the Santa Fe New Mexico area in 1981, Helen operated a computer consulting business for the next 40+ years. Primarily installing systems and software for non-profits, she gradually starting doing more work in finance. Concurrently, she and her husband Fritz ran cabin rental business on the Pecos River 25 miles from Santa Fe for 21 years. Later, she was employed by various nonprofits as a controller, finance director and accountant before retiring and eventually moving to Arizona. Currently on the boards of two other non-profits, she is very excited to be part of The Bisbee Foundation. She believes that giving makes you happier than getting.
